design solutions
Once getting a full understanding of contextual insights, we focused on our main product priorities to further improve the transparency, user control, and regulatory compliance of the Privacy Center. We worked closely with the design system team and our engineering team to ensure design consistency as we updated the product.
1/ Thoughtfully organized landing page to help meet a variety of user and regulator needs
highlighted 'proof points'
curated privacy topics
clear entry points to dedicated pages
2/ Dedicated pages for privacy topics, user settings, and more resources
privacy topics: education on privacy topics within Meta
user settings: easy-to-use settings for people to make their privacy choices
more resources: further education on how Meta builds privacy into its products
3/ Privacy Center navigation update for clearer context and direction
4/ Alternative educational formats to support different learning styles
exploration of interactive elements, visual elements, text formats, videos, etc.
5/ Frameworks and processes to ensure scalability

Updated user journey and navigation
Highlights strongest evidence of Meta privacy practices
Access to settings for people to make their privacy choices
Education on a variety of privacy topics within Meta
Resources on how Meta builds privacy into its products
Quick access to Meta's Privacy Policy

the project outcome
We conducted regional testing among users with different levels of tech-literacy as well as assessed overall performance metrics of the design solutions before and after the changes. Consequently, we received reinforcing feedback from users and positive performance indicators
⬆
Increase in meaningful engagement
⬇
Significant decline in bounce rates
⬆
Increase in qualitative understandability
⬆
Increase in qualitative relevancy
future enhancements
Through these updates, we discovered that there are a number of opportunities to continue improving the design and interaction of the Privacy Center as well as frameworks and processes to maintain the product's scalability. We journey onwards!
learnings
Privacy is a challenging space to work in as there are so many considerations to think through on top of what I would already normally have in mind when designing. Out of the many learnings, something that stuck out for me while working on this project is organization. I learned very quickly that getting my ducks in a row was a definite must throughout the many processes, explorations, alignments, and conversations of this project.
